Location - Virtually remote working with 2 days a month self-funded into the Southampton offices

Role Purpose

The Lead Data Scientist will be responsible for creating and delivering complex analytics and data science models, helping to answer complex and diverse questions from across the business. The role will focus on Interacting with a varied group of stakeholders to drive up the understanding of customers across the organisation, helping to shape the organisation's future strategies, improve customer experience, deepen engagement, drive revenue, and improve business efficiencies.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
·End-to-end responsibility for all data science projects within the team. Ensuring that you challenge the status quo, current approaches and models, whilst creating new ones to promote continuous improvement.
·Lead development of new and improve existing models of customer behaviour, be that churn models, time series forecast models, predictive models, segmentation models or customer lifetime value models.
·Lead the deployment of models into production so they can be consumed by other analytical teams across the business.
·Develop new and improve existing segmentations so they can be used in marketing activities and across the business, to help target and describe customers.
·Determine new methods and models to measure the incrementality of marketing activity.
·Deliver complex descriptive and predictive customer behavioural analytics.
·Working alongside the Analytics Manager within the team to help identify opportunities for new or improved models and approaches that can be used to better target or assess activity.
·Management of work backlog, using agile management practices to prioritise effectively across the varying analytical needs.
·Bring external thinking to the Organisation by maintaining an awareness of analytics usage in retail and other sectors and by keeping abreast of competitor technology and developments.
·Support the growth of new channels, Services, Digital, Market Place and Retail Media through the use of Next Best Offer engines and other models and segmentations.
·Build relationships with key stakeholders from across the business and translate their ambitions and goals into data science products.
·Agitate the organisation to make sure they are fully realising the art of the possible and deliver maximum value to the Business and its customers.

Required Skills & Experience:
·You have extensive programming ability across Python or R with a strong ability to use SQL.
·You'll have a strong understanding of efficiency and best practice in how code should be written and the ability to communicate and install this within the wider team.
·You've excellent analytical skills and statistical understanding, including experience in: predictive modelling, segmentation, time series analysis and applying these for decision making.
·Experience of using cloud based analytical platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Google BigQuery and the like is highly advantageous.
·You've a track record of taking data science products from conception through to deployment in production.
·You've had experience deploying data science workflows with tools like Airflow or Databricks.
·Proven experience of leading a data science team.
·Proven experience of working with customer data.
·You've a strong commitment to accuracy and rigour in analysis that is produced.
·You care about Quality Assurance, and lead coding documentation and version control best practices using GitHub. You are empathetic to the importance of Data Governance and good Data Quality.
·You've used Jira/Confluence before for managing workloads and documentation.
·You're a skilled storyteller who can bring that value to others.
·You've an awareness and understanding of technology and trends in Data Science and Analytics.
