The role
Working and collaborating closely with the Data Governance and GIS Manager, the GIS Analyst will develop and maintain our GIS platform, involving the unlocking geospatial insights, identifying trends, patterns, and relationships.

Responsibilities
• Develop, administer, and maintain the cloud-hosted geospatial database (PostgreSQL).
• Enrich GIS data through integration of relevant external datasets such as Ordnance Survey.
• Produce standardised maps for internal and external release including Land Registry and grounds maintenance contracts.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation to understand their geospatial data needs and requirements.
• Extend the GIS platform to make geospatial data and assets available via self-service to a range of stakeholders across the business.
• Provide training, guidance, and support to embed the use of GIS tools and outputs into business processes and develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for GIS assets, ensuring ease of understanding for stakeholders.
• Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives where geospatial expertise is required and collaborate with the BI team to integrate maps into dashboards and reports.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of GIS policies, standards, and best practices within the organisation.
• Monitor and evaluate existing and emerging GIS technologies to make recommendations for improvements to the existing solution.
• Conduct spatial data quality and risk assessments and implement security measures and data quality improvement strategies as needed.
• Contribute to development sprints.

Experience
• Degree level education or equivalent in a related field, or significant work-based experience with evidence of continuous professional development.
• In depth knowledge of GIS concepts including spatial data formats, projections, and coordinate systems.
• Proficiency in GIS software such as QGIS, ArcGIS or similar.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL or another spatial database.
• Experience in developing and maintaining GIS databases and platforms.
• Knowledge of spatial analysis methods and tools for identifying patterns, trends, and relationships in geographic data.
• Experience of geospatial data analysis, manipulation, and visualisation techniques.
• Knowledge and understanding relevant information security risks and mitigations.
• Knowledge and understanding of data protection regulations including GDPR.
• Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python for geospatial data processing and automation.
• Familiarity with Cadcorp suite of tools and/or Power BI.
• Experience of building productive relationships with 3rd party suppliers.
• Attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy and integrity of spatial data.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the confidence to constructively challenge existing ideas and work practices.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and analytical products that meet users' needs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation for a range of audiences.
• Stakeholder management skills with the ability to share knowledge with colleagues at all levels.
• Manages own learning, proactively researching current best practice and developing technical skills to improve delivery.
